Latin Students Test the Newest Digital Learning Platform

Middle and Upper School Latin students took learning into their own hands as they had the opportunity to participate in a demo workshop testing the new online component of the Cambridge Latin Course. The course will be part of the 6th edition package that will launch in 2024.

Senior User Experience Designer Hannah Winter and Digital Product Manager Laura Collins from Cambridge University Press & Assessment were on site to explain that there will be a new digital teaching and learning platform for North American Cambridge Latin. They noted that students are the most effective users to garner its effectiveness. The new platform will offer extra content and practice for students with an assessment feature.

With the guidance of Ms. Winter and Ms. Collins, the students took an online Latin vocabulary test with the goal of providing feedback about the platform interface, elements of program design, pathways, and the user experience. Latin teachers Stephanie Spaulding and Alison Orlebeke also participated in the demo on the teaching-facing component of the system to offer insight on their instructional experiences with the materials.

Following the workshop, Ms. Winter and Ms. Collins will take the feedback from the students for analysis and work with the product and design team to create the best user experience.

According to Ms. Spaulding, Hamden Hall is one of five schools in the Northeast participating in the demo workshop. She noted that it was a fun experience for the students as they had the chance to lead, collaborate, and be part of a publication future students will use.
