Homecoming 2023: Hornet Pride All Around the Hive

Once a Hornet, always a Hornet! The Hamden Hall Community celebrated Homecoming 2023 with two full days of activities and athletic games on both our Whitney Avenue and Skiff Street campuses.

The festivities for current students started the week prior with a school-wide spirit week with themed days including Class Color Wars, Jersey Day, and Green and White Day. On Friday, each division hosted its own events with Lower School students enjoying an Afro-Brazilian Ensemble performance in the Taylor Performing Arts Center then games on Augur Field. Middle School students partook in trivia contests and welcomed the Middle School Advocates for a special assembly before departing for bowling and Beckerman Night. Upper School students played a highly-competitive game of dodgeball in Taylor Gym and gathered on Saturday night for the Homecoming Dance.

Athletic games began on Friday afternoon as the Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team, Girls’ Varsity Field Hockey, and Varsity Co-Ed Cross Country competed against their opponents at the SKiff Street Athletic Complex.

Saturday morning welcomed students and families for our third-annual Color Run. With a DJ and a cued-up playlist, participants dressed in white T-shirts and neon sunglasses as they ran through rainbow-colored dust tossed by our student volunteers. The morning ended with a performance by the Hamden Hall Dance Club and myriad spirit-themed activities including bracelet making, spirit rocks, face painting, and a group dance party with special guest Ernie the Hornet.

On the other side of the field, Parents’ Association members were busy grilling food as the stands filled with fans to watch the Boys’ Varsity Football Team take on Pingree School. Other games included Girls’ Varsity Soccer, Girls’ Varsity Volleyball, and Boys’ Varsity Water Polo.

It was back to the nest for our alumni as they returned and connected with their fellow classmates while enjoying an assortment of refreshments. Current and former faculty were also on hand to enjoy the afternoon’s festivities.
