A Conversation with the Business Club – Young Alum Offers Insight

Hamden Hall’s High Schoolers into Business welcomed guest speaker Jake Teplitzky, an alumnus from the Class of 2016, to share his journey from the conceptualization of a business idea to starting his own company.

Jake successfully launched Teplitzky Management Group (TMG), which is a brand management consulting group for student-athletes, focusing on brand building, industry education, and career guidance in July of 2021.

Jake spoke in-depth about how becoming friendly with the NCAA student-athletes in his college classes sparked the idea of becoming an advocate within the sports industry. He understood the issues among the organization regulations and streamlined his venture to focus on developing individualized player brands, securing endorsements, and creating mutually beneficial relationships.

Jake credits Hamden Hall for helping steer him in the right direction stating that there are “many opportunities offered to students to pursue a particular area of interest” and “the school has a valuable networking system that extends past the pines.”

Following the event, students had the opportunity to ask Jake direct questions and get a firsthand account of what entrepreneurship looks like from the eyes of a young alum. His most integral piece of advice was to be passionate about what you do, but do not get too comfortable and continue working on the little things because they add to the larger goal.

“Whenever there is a chance to interact in small groups and network with alumni to hear shared experiences that resonate with our students, it breaks through the walls of classroom and empowers students,” noted Mr. Thomsen.

Senior and one of the club’s leaders Rahul Kapur said that the guest assembly “strengthened my passion for business and the club as a whole “enhanced my leadership and collaborative skills”

When asked what’s up next for the club, Mr. Thomsen noted the students petitioned for funding for a club stock group competition. The club is also looking to possibly arrange a trip to New York to visit Wall Street.

High Schoolers into Business is an extracurricular activity open to all students with the goal of enhancing entrepreneurship skills, fostering a business mindset, and create networking opportunities for likeminded students. The club formed through student interest with seniors Josh, Michael, and Rahul taking on leadership roles.
