Latin Students Recognized for 'Exceptional Performance'

Middle and Upper School Latin students have been recognized for their "exceptional performance" on the National Latin Exam (NLE), a test that covers general knowledge of Latin grammar and vocabulary, mythology, Roman culture, derivatives, and translation.

According to Latin teacher Stephanie Spaulding, “the mission of the National Latin Exam is to build excitement about learning Latin. Participating in this program helps our students stretch themselves and gain confidence. In a year of so many changes and interruptions, these results show that our students are on track.”

Students recognized for their exceptional performance on the exam include seventh-graders Sofia Correa, Andrew Yang, Laila Potter, and Kaleb Fiore; eighth-grader Monica Ehrenfels; freshmen Shaina Patel, Boyuan Su, Jake Cacace, and Zhou Lingjiao; sophomore Lucy Xu; and seniors Aidan Armstrong, Yuhao Han, Peien Ma, and Andrew Neubauer.

The exam, in which Hamden Hall students annually participate, “is not meant to be a competition but rather an opportunity for students to receive reinforcement and recognition for their accomplishments in the classroom,” per the NLE’s website.

“We hope that all of our language students are motivated to keep working hard and always striving to learn more,” said Ms. Spaulding.
