Peppy Musicians Boost Spirit

Playing a Bruno Mars’ tune and other snappy numbers, the Hamden Hall Pep Band jazzed up the school spirit in the Beckerman Athletic Center during several varsity basketball games this season.

Under the direction of instrumental music teacher Melissa Hudson, the Pep Band started the tradition last year of playing at basketball games. To date, the band performed at the girls’ and boys’ varsity basketball games against St. Luke’s School and King School.

According to Mrs. Hudson, “the Pep Band has been an enjoyable way to support our sports teams and show our Hamden Hall spirit!” She further noted that she tries to include songs that might be heard at UConn basketball games.

The band performs The Star Spangled Banner at the start of the game and continues with a repertoire that includes We Will Rock You, The Hey Song, The Whaler’s Theme Song, Go Fight Win, and others during timeouts and at half time.

Pep Band members include saxes: Michael Lee, George Guo, Leon Huang, Nicolas Bauer, Monte Meng; trumpets: Leo Ehrenfels, Mitchell Swick, Bailey Smoko; clarinets: Steven Zhang, Zenan Zhang; strings: Monica Ehrenfels, Sadie Shi, Laura Zhou, Nick Ma; oboe: Eduardo Pagliaro-Haque; flutes: Samantha Fowler, Josh Mukherjee, Daniel Vash; keyboard: Alexander Yi; electric bass: Rebecca McChesney; and drums: Parker Schultz and William Christman.
