Top 10 Highlights of the 2019-2020 School Year!

Top 10 Highlights of the 2019-2020 School Year!
  1. We have 140 new students on campus including three children of alumni! For the second consecutive year, the school received more than 500 applications and again set a school record for total number of applications. Congratulations to our entire Admissions team, faculty, and staff for creating such a dynamic school program!
  2. Our new connection with the Connecticut Education Network means our school community will enjoy high-performance Internet services on both of our campuses.
  3. New faculty and administrators for the school year include Carole Bird, Associate Director of College Counseling; Aidan Clark-Long, Middle School science teacher and coach; Dr. Patrick Fitzgerald, Middle and Upper School science and math teacher; Michael Gustin, Upper School math teacher; Michele Krasznai, Director of Development; Adam Matlock, Middle School music teacher; and Bernadette Niedermeier, part-time librarian. Click here to view a brief bio on each.
  4. The school store is going digital! Starting next month, Hamden Hall apparel and gear will be available for purchase online through our website.
  5. All Whitson Hall second-floor classrooms underwent renovation this summer including new paint, ceiling tiles, carpets, doors, and more. Classrooms were also outfitted with new interactive white boards, bookcases, two-person student desks and chairs, teachers’ desks, computers, and cabinetry.
  6. A new partnership with nearby Edgerton Park for our PreSchool/PreKindergarten class will have students visiting the park twice a month for hands-on, nature-based programming and activities. The initiative also has a community service element in that students will help keep the park clean and learn about care of our environment.
  7. The Upper School Science Department is now home to two new marine biology tanks that are well-stocked with Long Island Sound species – from eels to snails to hermit crabs! Students in Leah Mucciarone’s Marine Biology classes will maintain the tanks.
  8. Hamden Hall’s seven-year partnership with Mystic Seaport is now expanding – to overnight! Fifth-graders will explore the museum’s seaport village and sleep aboard the 1882 fully-rigged ship Joseph Conrad to experience a history lesson that simply can’t be emulated in the classroom.
  9. Four new water bottle filling stations have been installed throughout our campuses including Lender Refectory, Second Floor in Whitson, Swain Library, and the Beckerman Athletic Center.
10.New energy-efficient LED lighting has been installed in several key campus areas including the Hall Street parking lot, the main courtyard, Taylor Performing Arts Center, the first and second floors in Whitson Hall (including the stairwells), and the Lower School Art Gallery. According to Director of Facilities Jim Hunter, many of the new lights have censors that auto on and off and even brighten and dim when necessary.
