Dr. Barbara Beitch Memorial

Dr. Barbara Beitch, our longtime faculty member who remained active within our community despite having retired from our halls in 2004, died Nov. 24, 2023. She passed away suddenly, and her husband, Richard Yanowitz, was by her side.
 
As a 34-year faculty member at Hamden Hall, Barbara taught many classes but her passion was biology. She studied cellular/molecular biology at the University of Virginia and received her Ph.D. In addition, she received a mathematics degree from Indiana University.
 
Barbara honored the memory of her alumni children, Deborah Beitch Jenness 1982 and Rick Beitch 1983, by funding myriad programs, equipment, and more for our school community over the years. Just last month, Barbara joined us at Homecoming 2023.
 
A Celebration of Life was held at Hamden Hall's Swain Library on Jan. 6, 2024. More than 100 participants were on hand to pay tribute to the teaching legend and many offered remarks and shared stories about the impact Dr. Beitch had on their lives.
