Ernest W. “Ernie” Russ, U.S. Army, WWII

Ernest W. “Ernie” Russ, served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He served as a meteorologist in the Pacific arena during the war and interrupted his education at Yale University to do so.

Upon his return to the states, Ernie resumed his studies at Yale and went on to graduate from Yale with both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in science.

According to Dan Zibello Jr., former Hamden Hall science teacher, Ernie’s work during the war was cutting edge and involved careful observation, communication with other military weather stations, and the eventual development of accurate models.

Ernie passed away Nov. 27, 2016, at the age of 96. He was a part of the Hamden Hall family for 70 years.
