John Dietter, Lieutenant, U.S. Navy 1992 - 2005

Upon graduation from the US Naval Academy in 1996 and commissioned as an Ensign, John Dietter from the Class of 1991 became a naval aviator and helicopter pilot. He served in San Diego and Hawaii as an SH-60B SEAHAWK helicopter pilot - aircraft that are made by Sikorsky in CT.

He deployed on two separate six-month deployments (1999 and 2001) on board the Aegis Cruiser USS CHOSIN based out of Pearl Harbor and assigned to the USS CONSTELLATION Aircraft Carrier Battle-group which deployed to the Arabian Gulf.

Ports of call included Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Australia, UAE, Bahrain, and America Samoa, and John amassed more than 1200 flight hours, qualifying as aircraft commander before departing his squadron in 2002. He then became an Assistant Professor of Naval Science at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA, teaching courses in Naval Weapons Systems and Naval History.

John resigned as a Navy Lieutenant in 2005.
