Betty Christensen Berlepsch 1943 Update

Jodi Amatulli
Betty Christensen Berlepsch, Class of 1943, celebrated her 75th Hamden Hall reunion this year. After Hamden Hall, Betty attended Oberlin College for a year and then business school for a year, after which she was employed as an estimator in an office. In 1946, she married her 1943 Hamden Hall classmate Charlie Berlepsch. The couple started Cab Electric—what would become a very successful electrical contracting business where Betty was the bookkeeper. When Betty and her husband retired from their owned and operated company in 1982, two of their three sons took over the business. They also have a daughter. Betty and Charlie enjoyed many years post retirement golfing, playing bridge, and traveling throughout Europe and Canada. For 28 years, they lived in Winter Haven, Fla., during which time Betty worked and volunteered in the Winter Haven Red Cross office. During her lifetime, Betty served many organizations as a volunteer, including the Hamden Women’s Club and the Masonic Home (in their boutique). In 2007, they moved back to Connecticut. Charlie died in April 2011. Betty remains active—still playing bridge and doing some volunteer work—and she enjoys spending time with her family that includes nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. When looking back on her days under the pines, Betty said that Hamden Hall taught her values that she eventually passed onto her children. “Do the best you can at what you do. And have tolerance toward others, manners, and honesty.”
