Carol “Sperry” Piper 1948 Shares Update

Jodi Amatulli
It was a pleasure to recently catch up with Carol “Sperry” Piper, Class of 1948. Carol will celebrate her 70th reunion this year—albeit in spirit as she lives in Sacramento, Calif., and doesn’t believe she will make the trip “back home” to Hamden Hall. Carol and her husband, Richard, moved to the West Coast in 1969. Prior to their move to California, the family lived in Springfield, Mass., Chattanooga, Tenn., and Jacksonville, Fla. Richard worked as an accountant in the insurance industry and Carol worked in church offices. The couple met in 1952 after Carol graduated Alleghany College in Meadville, Pa. Carol’s brother, David Sperry, was Hamden Hall alumna Class of 1952 and is deceased. Carol and Richard have three daughters, two granddaughters, one grandson, two great grandsons, and two great granddaughters. As for her Hamden Hall days, Carol fondly recalls her science teacher, our legendary Ernie Russ. Carol said in college, she majored in biology, crediting Ernie’s mentoring. Today, Carol sings in the choir and is in bell choir at her Presbyterian Church.
