Boys Lax Captures FAA Tournament Crown!

Bud Kohler
History was made Friday afternoon at the Ernie Russ Field on Skiff St. when the Boys Lacrosse team captured their first ever Fairchester Athletic Association Tournament crown, defeating Rye Country Day 9-7. The top seeded Hornets had already won the regular season title and were undefeated in league play. They had also recently defeated the #2 seed Wildcats 11-7, so the Hornets started the game with plenty of positive energy and a fast breaking attack as they jumped out to score the game’s first four goals.

Hopes grew high for a convincing victory; however, the offense grew erratic in its possession. In addition, Rye withstood the initial onslaught and slowed the game down to frustrate the high flying Hornets. Still, the second half saw the Hornets improve to a 9-3 lead, when Rye began to mount a gritty comeback. The Wildcats scored 4 unanswered goals to trail 9-7 with two minutes left.

In the end, however, the Hornets’ defense held down the fort, enabling the team to deservedly hoist the championship trophy. Sophomore Chase Lilly led the Hornets with four goals, Alex DiVincentis added three, and Griffin Elliott had two goals and an assist to pace the Hornets.and Sam Jewett had nine saves. The Hornets will host a New England first round game on Monday against an opponent to be named.

Congratulations to Coach Warnock, his staff, and the entire team on an awesome achievement, and good luck in the New Englands!
