Will Carpenter 2008 in Law School

Jodi Amatulli
It was a “small world” sighting on the campus of Washington and Lee University when Head of School Bob Izzo and Will Carpenter, Hamden Hall Class of 2008, ran into each other. Will just completed his second year of law school at W&L in Lexington, Va. Will and his wife, Marcy, a high school math teacher, have a daughter, 9-month-old Piper. The couple married in July 2012, the same year that Will graduated with honors from the United States Military Academy with a Bachelor of Science in American Law. After West Point, Will went to the Air Defense Artillery Basic Course at Fort Sill, Okla., which he completed as an honor graduate in December 2012. After the basic course, Will was assigned to a Patriot Missile Battalion in Germany, where he worked from January 2013 to June 2016. While in Germany, Will began his assignment as a platoon leader in one of the four firing batteries and completed his 3-and-a-half year assignment as a senior patriot missile tactician in the battalion. While working in Europe, Will applied to the Army's Funded Legal Education program, under which the Army sends 25 Army officers, each year, from across the Army to law school for three years. In return, each officer must serve an additional six years as a judge advocate. As for running into “Mr. Izzo”—Bob and his wife, Janet, and their son, Chris, Hamden Hall Class of 2018, were at W&L on Admitted Students Day. Congratulations to Will on all of your accomplishments!
