Valedictorian and Salutatorian Announced for the Class of 2018

The Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the Hamden Hall Class of 2018 is Jinxin Pan and Miranda Iannone, respectively, both of whom will attend Ivy League colleges in the fall.

Jinxin, who has attended Hamden Hall since eighth grade, will study applied math at Columbia University. While at Hamden Hall he’s been involved in myriad extracurriculars, including establishing the Upper School Robotics Team after having been a programmer for a college-level robotics team off campus.

“Hamden Hall has been an environment for me to explore various opportunities as well as establish personal connections with my peers and teachers,” he said.

Jinxin has been a member of the Math Team for all four years in Upper School and is currently the team captain. He was also selected as a Princeton Peer Leader this year – a prestigious honors course that pairs seniors with their freshmen peers to offer mentorship and guidance. Peer Leaders undergo intensive leadership training throughout the year to equip them with the skillsets needed for the program.

Next up for Jinxin is to write his Valedictorian speech, which will be offered at Commencement 2018 on June 8 at 5 p.m.

"I feel thrilled and privileged to be offered the opportunity to speak for our class. I am also extremely grateful to my family, all the teachers, and my friends who have helped me so much along the way," he maintained.

Miranda will attend Cornell University and play DI soccer for The Big Red. She will study in the College of Human Ecology and her planned major is human biology, health, and society.

“Over the past four years, Hamden Hall has allowed me to not only grow my athletic abilities and be a part of very successful and competitive teams, but it also provided me with every possible resource for my education,” said Miranda.

Miranda has played Varsity soccer all four years of Upper School and has captained the team for both her junior and senior years. For the first time this year, she is also playing Varsity lacrosse. She’s also involved with student government, is a member of the Interact Club, and is an editor for the school’s newspaper, The Advent.
