Joyce Olson Resnikoff, Class of 1955

Joyce Olson Resnikoff is the visionary and developer of Olde Mistick Village, a unique collection of specialty shoppes and restaurants in popular tourist-destination Mystic, Connecticut. Along with her twin brother, Jerry Olson, also a Hamden Hall alumnus, Joyce in 1973 created the standout attraction.

As a real estate developer, Joyce has been called a pioneer as well as a powerhouse in the tourism industry and a positive force for empowering women. She was the only woman on the board of the Bank of Mystic for 10 years, has supported a number of cultural and non-profit service agencies in the region, and fought the Connecticut blue laws prohibiting retail business on Sundays during the 1960s and ‘70s.

Other affiliations include being the first and only woman on the board of the Eastern CT Chamber of Commerce and the founder of the Mystic Coast and Country Travel & Leisure Council.

Joyce was raised in East Haven along with her three siblings. Her sister, the late Sylvia Olson Michaels, graduated Hamden Hall in 1950. She has four sons, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Joyce’s father, the late Martin Olson, was also a pioneer retail developer. In 1952 he built the state’s first retail strip mall, the Groton Shopping Plaza.

In 2013, Hamden Hall dedicated the Olson Family Gazebo to Joyce and her siblings. Situated adjacent to the Hamden Hall campus courtyard, the gazebo is a meeting place for students as well as a makeshift classroom on picture-perfect weather days. Additionally, Joyce was honored in 2016 with an Alumni Achievement Award.

Professionally, Joyce has been the recipient of many awards and accolades, including the Women's Center of Southeastern Connecticut’s inaugural Woman of Distinction Award in 2006. She was also named Grand Marshal of the 2012 Mystic Irish Parade
