Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen

Hamden Hall students served more than 200 dinners at the Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen last month. Students involved with Interact and the Community Service Club sliced and diced vegetables and then served the patrons who frequent the soup kitchen in New Haven.  According to English teacher Bill Hunter, who coordinates Hamden Hall’s ongoing commitment to the soup kitchen, the Community Service Club has been helping to prep food on designated Wednesdays since the fall. For members of Interact, the experience was a new one – as this is the first time students helped out at the kitchen. It was also the first time that members of the Community Service Club actually served the food to diners. “Both clubs have second dates in April to again serve the needs of the New Haven area community,” said Mr. Hunter, who was appreciate of all who volunteered. He offered “special thanks” to junior Abigail Malin, an Interact member, and senior Shana Bellamy, with the Community Service Club, for helping to organize the service evenings.
