Betty Trachtenberg, Past Parent

Betty is survived by her three children. Her son Zev graduated from Hamden Hall in 1972.

Betty was born in Philadelphia to eastern European immigrants. She had a talent for playing piano and studied with noted pianist and composer Leo Ornstein. She graduated from Girls High School in 1951 and married her childhood friend Alan Trachtenberg in 1952. The coupled settled in Hamden when Alan's academic career took him to Yale University. Through the years Betty continued with the piano, giving lessons and accompanying dance classes. In 1974 she began her 34 year career at Yale eventually serving as Dean of Student Affairs until her retirement in 2007. After her retirement Betty served on the board of the Neighborhood Music School in New Haven
