Class of 1998 Spotlight: Alumna and Lifer Megan Brownstein Rutstein

Class of 1998 alumna Megan Brownstein Rutstein will be re-shirted as an Alumni Lifer during our annual Lifers’ Shirting Ceremony on campus. Megan was shirted 25 years ago along with four of her classmates. As part of a new tradition, Megan will once again don a special T-shirt commemorating the fact that she was in our halls from PreSchool through Grade 12.

Following graduation from Hamden Hall, Megan studied at Lehigh University where she graduated in 2002 with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism and public relations. She went on to obtain a law degree from New York Law School, graduating in 2005.

Megan worked as associate general counsel at Jones Apparel Group in New York City for more than seven years before transitioning to a new career that sparked the beginning of a new life chapter. She created the popular digital platform, westportmoms.com, which offers readers up-to-date information of what is happening within the Westport community.

“The website was a side project that quickly turned into a full-time job,” said Megan. “I wanted to try something new because I wanted to be around my kids as much as possible.”

With the success of the online site, Megan also became a real estate agent at Coldwell Banker in Westport. She noted that she “helps families find their dream home and helps them set up everything they need so they can feel like part of the Westport community instantly.”

In 2019, she helped start a charity called ImpaCT, in which volunteers support and raise awareness for local charities throughout Fairfield Country. She also works on the Executive Planning Committee for St. Jude Children's Hospital and their event The St. Jude Give to Live Gala.

Megan and her husband, Greg Rutstein, currently live in Westport, Conn., with their two children, daughter Remi 11 and son Chase 8, and their dog, Bogey. Megan and Greg will celebrate their 15th anniversary this June.

Megan is the daughter of past Trustee James and Michelle Brownstein 1972, and sister to Kimberly Brownstein Greenberg 2001 and Blake Brownstein 2009.
