Class of 1998 Spotlight: Alumnus and Lifer Dr. Marko Lujic

Class of 1998 alumnus and current parent Marko Lujic has dedicated his career to the field of medicine. He is currently an attending general surgeon with Hartford Heath Care Medical Group with offices in Southington and Plainville.

Following his graduation from Hamden Hall, Marko attended Yale University where he graduated in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in cell and molecular biology. He earned his master’s degree in 2005 and doctorate in 2010 from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. Marko completed his residency training in general surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven.

As a general surgeon, Marko’s areas of expertise include abdominal core health, various types of hernias, appendectomies, gastrointestinal surgery, laparoscopic foregut surgery, and much more. He is also affiliated with Midstate Medical Center in Meriden and The Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain.

At Hamden Hall, Marko was a Lifer having been enrolled since PreSchool. He was also a member of the Boys’ Varsity Soccer, Basketball, and Lacrosse teams – and continued playing lacrosse at Yale. Other activities included being a Peer Leader his senior year along with membership in Yearbook, Key Club, and other clubs on campus.

Following his lacrosse-playing days at Yale, Marko was drafted by the Boston Cannon in the third round in the 2002 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft. He went on to play with the Bridgeport Barrage, Connecticut’s only professional lacrosse team.

Marko is the son of longtime Trustee and former board chair Joyce Lujic and Dr. Petar Lujic, former chairman of the Anesthesiology Department at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven. His three siblings, Dr. Katarina Curtis 1986, Dr. Denisa Lujic 1987, and Dr. Sanda Tomak 1989, are also alumni – and fellow medical practitioners.
Marko and his wife, Deanna, live in North Haven with their two daughters, Marina 2031, Francesca 2036, and son Branko 2036.

Marko's status as an Alumni Lifer will be celebrated in February during a special portion of our annual Lifers' Shirting Assembly. He and his four fellow Lifer classmates from the Class of 1998 will be recognized during this 25th milestone year and once again receive T-shirts commemorating their longevity within our halls.
