Class of 1996 Spotlight: Heather Kramer Giordano, NP

Class of 1996 alumna Heather Kramer Giordano has been working as a nurse practitioner for a hematology/oncology practice affiliated with White Plains Hospital in White Plains, N.Y., for almost 10 years.

“I knew from a very young age that I wanted to work in the medical field, but just didn’t know specifics,” commented Heather. “It took a little while to figure out, but certainly a rewarding pursuit.”

Heather graduated from Lehigh University in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and from Quinnipiac University in 2002 with bachelor’s degree in nursing. She went on to obtain her Masters of Science in nursing from Hunter College while working as a registered nurse at Weill Cornell Hospital in New York City. She worked for a neurosurgery/neuro-oncology practice before moving to Westchester in 2013 to begin her current position.

She advises students looking to pursue a career in the nursing field to research and figure out what path or specialty they are interested in.

“It is imperative to take time to figure out what type of nursing you want to do,” said Heather. “It is good to gain experience as a registered nurse first before pursuing a master’s program.”

During her time at Hamden Hall, Heather was a member of the Varsity Field Hockey and Softball teams. She was involved with the Key Club, Debate Team, Peer Tutoring, and Middle School Advocates. She said her favorite memories include attending football games and Homecoming weekend along with working backstage on theater productions.

Heather currently lives in Bedford, N.Y., with her two daughters Isla, 11, and Maya, 7. Isla plays on a travel soccer team while Maya enjoys acting and performing. Both of her daughters love to ski as well.
