Rose Classic Super Jam Hosts the Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team

The Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team competed in the Rose Classic Super Jam on Sunday, January 15, against Friends Central School and Neumann Goretti, ending with a 1-1 record.

It was a back-and-forth effort against Friends Central before the Hornets fell 62-40, but the team bounced back against in the second game against Neumann Goretti. Senior Rayne Durant kept the ball moving and took rebound opportunities to help keep the team in the lead throughout the game. Seniors Josie Cancro and Eveani Okwuosa and sophomore Emma Olausson all successfully executed the transition fast break play to secure the final win, 56-39.

“You don't get these opportunities as often during regular season games.” said Coach Brian Johnson. “It’s a different style with college coaches there watching from the stands and the team gets to see bigger action on the court.”

It was a special day as a few select players earned awards. Rayne Durant was awarded the MVP Award for her performance in Game 2, Eveani Okwuosa was awarded the Sportsmanship Award, and Jayda Johnson was awarded the Scholar Award.

The team will be back on the home court at the Beckerman Athletic Center to host Dalton School on Friday, January 20, at 5 p.m.
