Jack Schoonmaker 2018, 2nd Lieutenant, U.S. Marine Corps

After graduating from Saint Anselm College in May, alumnus Jack Schoonmaker 2018 was commissioned to serve in the United States Military with the goal of becoming an officer. Jack is a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps.

Jack graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. He is now attending The Basic School, warfare training for Marine officers, at Quantico in Virginia. After receiving his occupational job assignment and completing the necessary schooling, he will be stationed for full-time active duty and can reenlist after five to six years of service. Jack hopes to join a U.S. federal agency upon completion of his time in the military.

The summer after he graduated from Hamden Hall, Jack entered boot camp and completed his training in September 2018. He then went to Marine Combat Training located at Camp Geiger in North Carolina where he trained to be a Marine Corps rifleman. In January 2019, he graduated from a military occupational school located at North Carolina’s Camp Johnson where he trained as an administrative clerk. He was part of an infantry company located in Plainville, Conn., that was ordered to be ready to deploy at any time.

Following those collective experiences, Jack sought to become an “Officer of Marines.” He then went through 10 weeks of Officer Candidate School in Quantico, graduating in August 2021.

Jack’s brother Luke, currently playing football at Michigan University, graduated from Hamden Hall in 2018. Their two younger siblings, twins Lily and Mark, are juniors at Hamden Hall.
