Boys’ Varsity Baseball Wins the New England Championship

The Boys’ Varsity Baseball team won the New England Championship game against MacDuffie School on Saturday, May 29.

Traveling to Providence Country Day School in East Providence, R.I., the Hornets were fired up for the final game. On the mound, starting pitcher and senior Cameron Maldonado had a strong outing, not allowing a single hit.

In the first inning, the team scored eight runs on eight hits. Freshman Lucas Ametrano added two doubles to end the inning 8-0. Sophomore Gavin Lyons had three hits and five RBIs to secure the 13-2 victory.

“It was amazing,” commented Coach Brad Chernovetz. “They left it all out on the field and I could not be more proud.”

The team finished the season with an impressive 18-5 record and won 15 out of the last 16 games including the Fairchester Athletic Association Tournament. The Boys' Varsity Baseball team previously won the FAA back in 2014 and the New England Tournament in 2017.
