Instrumental Students Dazzle in Spring Concert

From Wolfgang Mozart to Pyotr Illyrich Tchaikovsky to the Beatles, Middle and Upper School instrumental students joined together in musical prowess for the annual Spring Concert in Taylor Gymnasium.

Led by music teachers and directors Melissa Hudson and Gretchen Frazier, the performance opened with the Middle School Ensemble playing a piece titled Feeling the Pulse. Eighth-graders Ravindu Karunarante and Andrew Yang along with seventh-grader Allison Yang performed La Rejouissance and Spring, from the Four Seasons, as a violin trio.

“I’m very proud of all the students who are performing in our concert,” said Ms. Frazier. “I am also very grateful for the families, the school administration, and all of the Hamden Hall community for supporting our instrumental music program.”

The full Upper School Concert Orchestra and Ensemble followed with selections culminating with familiar tunes including Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles. Seniors Kate Xie and Jada Potter transcribed the piece Above the Sea of Clouds and A Harmonious Rest by Yu-Pen Chen for the harp and clarinet respectively. The concert concluded with members of the Jazz Ensemble performing a few selections.

Following the concert, Mrs. Hudson took a moment to honor the seniors and thank them for their hard work in the program and helping the younger students in rehearsals.

“I am proud of the leadership that the older students have shown the beginning musicians, said Mrs. Hudson. “It is a team effort, and the students have been dedicated and worked very hard this year.”
