2020 Alumnus Accepts Advocacy Organization Internship

Class of 2020 alumnus Nikhil Samuel accepted an internship with the Center for American Progress as part of the National Security and International Policy team.

Nikhil’s responsibilities include assisting the staff with their respective projects, drafting grant proposals, providing one-pagers on developments with political deals, and conducting fact-finding research on international policies.

“I am grateful for this internship as it allows me to network with professionals in the field I hope to work in following graduation,” said Nikhil. “My longtime interest in history and languages led to me pursue both my current degree of study in Internal Affairs and work opportunities. It is critical in this field to be knowledgeable of languages and appreciate other cultures.”

During his time at Hamden Hall, Nikhil was a member of Model U.N and the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society. He noted that he is grateful to former Spanish teacher Mrs. Melissa Castro-Holland for starting Model U.N. and Upper School Spanish teacher and advisor Ms. Julie Sanza for keeping the club running. It was a formative experience that inspired him to study International Affairs.

Nikhil further commented that Dr. Lisa Hill, our Director of Inclusion, Equity and Diversity and Rho Kappa advisor, was a fantastic mentor and through the club he gained leadership and communication skills that benefited his professional development.

Nikhil is currently a sophomore at George Washington University where he is studying International Affairs and Security Policy. This summer he will be participating in the Critical Language Scholarship program and will be studying Urdu in the city of Lucknow, India.
