1997 Alumnus Hits the Water with New Business Venture

Class of 1997 alumnus Colin Caplan has added a new business to his resume – Pedal Cruise CT.

Opening this June, Pedal Cruise CT is a pedal cruise boating excursion that will allow guests the chance to float around and take in a scenic view of the great waterfronts and harbors in the Milford area. The boat is equipped with 12 pedaled seats, but allows for up to 20 guests. All cruises will have safety measures in place including a captain and first mate on board. Guests are welcome to bring their own snacks and drinks.

“I love being part of people gathering and having fun, learning, eating, and enjoying life together,” commented Colin.

With the success of his other local businesses’, Taste of New Haven and Elm City Bike Tour, Colin wanted to expand into the party boat business and knew Connecticut offered navigable areas. He said his team finalized on Milford as it has a great waterfront and vessel infrastructure. Colin noted the city’s leadership has been extremely supportive and excited about this venture. The ultimate goal is for participants to have fun and enjoy summer on the water.

Currently, Colin manages five other touring companies in Orlando, Fla., and Austin, TX.  He launched Taste of New Haven in 2011, which provides walking culinary tours of local food and pizza spots in New Haven. He established the popular Elm City Bike Tour in 2016, which invites guests to bike pedal around the city while viewing architecture, historical sites, and all that New Haven offers.

Colin and his wife April Amellin Caplan 1996 reside in New Haven where April works as a children’s behavior therapist.
