Fourth Grade Classroom Activity Inspired by Summer Reading

Get your lemonade here! Fourth-grade students constructed their own personal lemonade stands as part of an interactive classroom activity inspired by a book from the summer reading list.

“The Lemonade War” by Jaqueline Davies centers on two siblings who decide to have a lemonade contest to see who can raise the most money following a dispute. In the end, the siblings ended the argument and made up.

All students designed their own colorful posters to attract classmates to the stands. With handmade coins, each student walked around the room to each stand to either buy or sell lemonade. By the end, they had to determine if a profit or loss was made.

According to Grade 4 teacher Sara Dixon, the activity was a fun, creative way for students to wrap up the assigned book. The class had real lemonade after to celebrate the creative art work.
