2013 Alum was MADE for Art Design

Silas Newman, Class of 2013, turned his studio art degree into a career of creation that now has him returning to the classroom to obtain his Master in Architecture from the Yale School of Architecture.

For the past three years, he has worked as a designer at MADE Design/Build in Brooklyn, N.Y. His projects ranged from furniture design, to townhouse renovations, to restoration of restrain interiors.

Silas’s most recent design project was a series of furniture pieces for the apartment interior of a client in Brooklyn. Working with collaborators Ben Bischoff and Nico Roger, Silas created multi-purpose pieces - specifically a bed made from solid white oak with an Osmo wax finish that functions as both a bookshelf and dresser.

Silas studied studio art at Wesleyan University and minored in data science. He graduated with honors and was also the recipient of the Connecticut Architecture Foundation Scholarship. To read, please click here
