Alumni Panel Talks Race with Middle Schoolers

A panel of alumni recently spoke to Middle School students on the topic of race, answering questions about their own time as seventh- and eighth-graders.

Sheryl-Leigh General 2016, Tyler Williams 2009, and Chavon Patterson 2020 returned to campus virtually via Zoom for the Dec. 11 assembly that was hosted by the Anti-Defamation League. ADL CT Director Michelle Pincince coordinated the event.

According to Middle School Director Brian Christman, the alums spoke about and defined such concepts as "microaggression" and discussed their experiences as Middle School students.

"It was pretty important and very powerful," said Mr. Christman of the overall event.

Currently, Chavon Patterson is a freshman at Skidmore College majoring in psychology and theater.

Sheryl-Leigh General graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication, Spanish, and linguistic studies from the College of Charleston. She is now an executive assistant with Cornerstone Government Affairs and is a registration volunteer for ADL.

Tyler Williams is an attorney with Berchem Moses PC in Milford. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stonehill College and received his juris doctorate from the University of Connecticut School of Law. He is currently involved with the Hamden Hall Office of Development and Alumni Relations forming an Alumni Network.
