2014 Alumna is the CT FoodGirly!

A family vacation in Italy – which of course meant lots of wonderful meals – has led to a licensed business for alumna Alex Acquarulo, Class of 2014.

Alex started CT FoodGirly in October 2017. The enterprise began as an Instagram account on which Alex would share her food photography that she had collected over the years from some of her favorite local spots, as well as those great dining experiences in Italy.

As the Instagram handle gained momentum, Alex partnered with her older sister, alumna Blake Acquarulo, Class of 2012, to help take the account from a social media page to a licensed business.

With a new website, behind-the-scene blogs, Facebook page and more, CT FoodGirly took off and the sisters dove headfirst into the Connecticut food industry. In addition, CT FoodGirly was named the 2020 Readers’s Pick finalist for Social Media Influencer in Connecticut Magazine.

“CT FoodGirly became a place for Connecticut food lovers to listen, learn, meet, and try new places in the state,” maintained Alex, who has since taken on the business full time given that Blake is now in medical school.

At this point – and especially in light of COVID-19 – Alex said she strives to follow the mission of helping local Connecticut restaurants and businesses grow.

“I still run the account by myself, and I travel to different restaurants in the state that reach out to me. Since COVID, I’ve really been focusing on supporting local and how we can all give back to our small businesses that we need to make sure get through this,” she said.
