Alum Scores New Coaching Post

After returning to his alma mater to help coach the Boys' Varsity Basketball team for seven seasons, alumnus Danny Oglesby, Class of 2002, has been named head coach at North Haven High School.

Working with him as assistant coaches will be fellow Hornets Michael DiMartino, Class of 2016, and Victor Joshua, Class of 2012.

Danny scored 3,049 points in five seasons with Hamden Hall from 1997 to 2002. The Hornets won four New England Prep School Athletic Council Class D Championships during his career playing for former coach Dave Beckerman. He was the New Haven Register’s Area MVP in 2002.

He went on to play basketball at both the University of South Florida and Fairfield University. He earned a master's in Applied Behavior Analysis and Autism from The Sage Colleges in 2016. 

Danny has served as an assistant coach under three of Hamden Hall's Varsity Boys' basketball coaches. He was also the recipient of an Athletic Hall of Fame Award from Hamden Hall in 2018. 

“I’m grateful to Coach Karlins, Coach Beckerman and Coach Doherty, being able to coach at the school I played at. It was such an unbelievable experience. I got to reconnect with my old school and the community. It was a positive experience and I’m really grateful for that," he said in an interview with the New Haven Register.

Danny's assistant coaches are familiar with his coaching style, and both played for the Hornets during their time under the pines. Victor Joshua played under Coach Keith Kaliszewski including during his senior year, which was also Coach K's final year on the court. Victor scored his 1,000 point milestone while playing for Hamden Hall.

Michael DiMartino played under Coach Beckerman and Coach Karlins and served as a strong team leader including as captain during his senior year.

Danny is married to his Hamden Hall 2002 classmate, Meighann Recile-Oglesby, and the couple has three children.
