Lacrosse Coach Spearheads National Wall Ball Challenge

A Wall Ball Challenge organized by Boys’ Varsity Lacrosse Coach Kevin Warnock has garnered interest from 55 high school teams – as well as one pro team – throughout the country and Canada. Hamden Hall's Girls' and Boys' Varsity Lacrosse teams are participating in the undertaking.

Mr. Warnock is working in conjunction with Avon High School Boys’ Lacrosse Coach Adam Cost on coordinating the national competition. To date, boys’ and girls’ teams from Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Georgia, Florida, California, Wisconsin, Ohio, Arizona, Delaware, Michigan, Texas, and Alberta, Canada, will take part in the initiative.

“We took the lead of other schools that have competed on this same format and created a national platform.

This provides an opportunity for our students to compete against schools from across the nation,” said Mr. Warnock. “I am proud of what our team has developed as a winning tradition here at Hamden Hall, and I look forward to seeing them compete against the nation’s best on this platform.”

Participating teams have at least 20 players, including one goalie. Boys’ teams include four long poles. Players take videos of themselves trying to get in as many touches, or reps, as they can in 20 seconds and then submit the videos to their coaches.

On Game Day, tomorrow, April 25, all coaches will share five different player videos at a time to simulate a game “quarter” at four specified times on their Instagram accounts. Wall Ball Challenge organizers will release “real time” leaderboard updates on their Instagram accounts. Everyone can follow along by searching #WallBallChallenge2020.

Hamden Hall senior lacrosse player Alex DiVincentis, who will play DI lacrosse at Marist College next year, said the challenge allows participants to hone their skills.

“The wall ball challenge focuses on competition between teammates and other teams by using a basic skill that most every lacrosse player practices: hitting the wall,” he said. “The competition forces participants to get outside and find a wall while also competing with their team to win and get better at the game of lacrosse.”
