Student Artwork Receives Recognition by Industry Professionals

Four Upper Schoolers are the recipients of Connecticut Regional Scholastic Art Awards.

Senior Yuchen Jiang, juniors Xingfeiyang Liu and Chenxi Zhang, and sophomore Yanmi Yu were selected to have their artwork included in a state-wide exhibition at Hartford Art School's Silpe Gallery. Additionally, all were awarded Gold or Silver keys and Honorable Mention awards for their submitted pieces.

“Student artwork is juried by professional artists and university art faculty and is selected on merit for inclusion in a state-wide art exhibition held at the Hartford Art School. Beyond the honor of being selected for this high quality exhibit, students may be awarded Gold or Silver keys and Honorable Mention awards in each of 18 media categories,” the website states.

Yuchen received three Gold keys and two Silver keys for five different paintings that were recognized. Xingfeiyang received a Gold Key for her Squirrel Fish painting. Both Chenxi and Yanmi received Honorable Mentions for their photography and sculpture entries.

“We are very proud of our talented students and their efforts and the recognition they have received beyond Hamden Hall,” said Arts Department Chair Caryn Azoff.

Because they received Gold keys, Yuchen and Xingfeiyang will have their artwork reviewed by a blue ribbon panel of judges for the National Scholastic Art Awards in March.
