Science Teacher Garners Conservation Award

Science teacher and MakerSpace Design Lab coordinator Richard Chiaramonte was honored in October 2019 by the Stamford Land Conservation Trust.

The Stamford Land Conservation Trust Conservation Award is presented each year at the organization’s annual meeting in October for “outstanding contribution to environmental conservation in the city of Stamford.”

Richard served for seven years as the President of the Board. During his tenure, he was instrumental in laying the groundwork for the acquisition of a 26-acre parcel of land and bringing public awareness to the organization’s mission. He also oversaw several technological advances for the non-profit, which stewards more than 400 acres of open space in Stamford.

“For me, the opportunity to contribute, through my work with the Land Trust, and now teaching at Hamden Hall, I see a chance to do my part. In class, as we look at the environmental problems facing the current generation, we recognize the uniqueness of our planet as well as the responsibility we share. We may even get a look at a solution of two,” maintained Richard.

Richard holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University and a Master of Science from Columbia University. He is married to Sally Eberhardt and is the grandfather of alumni DiMartino brothers Austin 2015 and Michael 2016.
