Field Hockey & Girls Soccer in New Englands; Football Finishes with Big Win vs. K-O

Bud Kohler
Varsity Girls Soccer also received a New England tournament bid, and are the #7 seed in the Class D tournament. They will make the chilly trek north to take on #2 seed Vermont Academy on Wednesday.

Varsity Football won its final game in convincing fashion on Friday evening up in West Hartford, topping Kingswood-Oxford School 42-27. The Hornets had previously suffered an upset 15-10 loss vs. Portsmouth Abbey of Rhode Island and then just could not find the end zone, falling 7-0 to bowl bound Canterbury School. QB James Laubstein threw for 207 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Running back Jordan Benoit capped a brilliant career with a 267 total yards performance - 143 on the ground and 124 through the air, with three visits to the end zone. Mike DeMatteo ran for 87 yards, including a 50 yard dash, and had two catches for 41 more yards, scoring a pair of TDs. The Hornets raced out to a 14-0 1st quarter lead and never looked back. The win against the Wyverns earned the team a 5-4 record.

Boys Varsity Soccer fell to Hopkins in the Fairchester League tournament, and finished with an impressive 10-3-2 record, but was unfortunately edged out of the New England tournament after holding a favorable ranking down the stretch.

It has been a very successful fall season for the Hornet teams, and there will be many individual honors to post upon the completion of the fall. In the meantime, good luck to those still playing.
