Marco Fontana, Class of 2016, interned this summer for the New York Mets, working in inside sales. Marco lived in New York City through August, experiencing the Mets life.
Why the Mets? “Because they have a fantastic leadership team that invests a lot of time and resources into my development,” said Marco.
When Marco returned to Ithaca College to begin his senior year in the fall, he took a few lessons from his Met's experience with him.
He’s a major player on the sales side of the school’s Cortaca contest. Marco pitched the idea in the 2019 spring semester to Annemarie Farrell, associate professor and chair of the sport management department, and Will Rothermel, associate director of athletics. Marco’s proposal was approved by the Cortaca planning committee, and he was named director of ticket sales.
Marco oversees the management of 14 business students on the sales team as well as day-of ticket sales. The team is promoting Cortaca ticket sales through social media.
According the school’s website, while the Cortaca Jug is an annual tradition, this is the first time students from the School of Business will run the campus’s ticket sales.
This season’s Cortaca Jug game between the Ithaca College and SUNY Cortland football teams will be played at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J, the home of the New York Giants and New York Jets. The game has already sold more than 30,000 tickets.
Marco plans to graduate in May with a bachelor’s of science in business administration and a concentration in sport management.
