Rising Seventh-Graders Celebrated During Final Lower School Event

The 31 members of the sixth-grade class are “bonded by music,” according to Lower School Director Lorri Carroll. As such, it seems appropriate that their sixth-grade graduation ceremony last week included a performance that concluded with all of them splaying their jazz hands!

“Say goodbye to Lower School as we shake-a-shake our jazz hands,” they sang to families and friends in the Taylor Performing Arts Center.

Prior to the presentation of certificates, Mrs. Carroll shared a few remarks about the class. She noted that it is clear that the sixth-grade class cares about the environment and the Earth, thus their collective painting of the school’s recycling cans. They also took initiative with other undertakings on campus, she said.

“They embraced their roles as leaders of the school and they got things done,” said Mrs. Carroll. “Take what you’ve learned in Lower School as you go through life. We have prepared you to be outstanding people. Hold the door for someone. Smile more. More acts can have a ripple effect. That’s how you can change the world.”

Head of School Bob Izzo asked the students to turn around in their seats and acknowledge their parents with a round of applause.

“Being kind, positive, and optimistic is a much better way to go through life,” Mr. Izzo advised the students, whom he addressed as rising seventh-graders and the Class of 2025.

Following a slide show presentation that depicted the students throughout their Hamden Hall Lower School years, students took part in the annual Rose Ceremony, which became an official component of the sixth-grade graduation ceremony three years ago.

Students each give roses to the two sixth-grader teachers, Beth Hunter and Andrea Calandrelli, and in exchange receive hugs and words of encouragement.
