Gabe Simerson 2016 Named Communications Director

Jodi Amatulli
Gabriel “Gabe” Rhys Simerson, Class of 2016, has been named communications director for Students for Free Expression. The nonpartisan organization is working to build a nationwide community of students supporting free expression and equip them to defend it in higher education.
Gabe is a junior at American University in Washington, D.C., majoring in political science. In his new role, Gabe combines his interest in the free speech movement with his experience in writing and social media.
While a student at Hamden Hall, Gabe overhauled the school’s Instagram account in 2015 and facilitated a 565 percent increase in followers. At American, Gabe’s work has been featured in The Eagle, the university paper, and Atrium, a student publication. He’s been published in New Haven Magazine and has contributed to Connecticut Public Radio’s Morning Edition.
At Students for Free Expression, Gabe shifts his focus to articulating the mission of the organization and its members.
“The opportunities I had at Hamden Hall—running the Instagram account, writing for local publications, and my May Project at WNPR—gave me valuable experience and tools that will be integral to the communications aspect of this new position.”
That’s what we call a great Hamden Hall Experience! Congratulations, Gabe, on your achievements to date.
