Seventh-Grader Qualifies for Mathcounts Nationals

Leon Jiang, a seventh-grader, qualified to attend the National Competition of Mathcounts. He ranked #2 from among 34 students in the state, and is one of only four students from Connecticut qualified to compete at the national level.

According to Mathcounts advisor Maria Agulian, this is the first time in 25 years that a Hamden Hall student has qualified for nationals.

"Leon took the third test last week. I watched and proctored him remotely for about two hours. He was laser-focused. He was also proctored at home by his aunt," stated Mrs. Agulian.

Leon also participated in the Mathcounts Invitational Chapter competition in February and achieved the #3 rank from among 20 students. That ranking qualified him to participate in the state Mathcounts Competition.
