Experience Summer at Hamden Hall!

A week-long outdoor education class and a Makerspace opportunity are just two of the newest offerings for students taking advantage of the Summer Experience at Hamden Hall.

The school offers a wide range of summer programs for students of all ages that foster the Hamden Hall Experience. Opportunities include our traditional day camp – Camp Hornet – various sports camps, and enriching learning classes and for-credit courses for students in all levels via our Summer Academy.

The outdoor education class is offered through the Upper School Summer Academy program. As a full-day program, the course will include “lots of hiking and canoeing adventures,” according to Summer Academy Director Allison Ehrenreich. Garnering first aid and CPR certification will also be available to attendees 15 and older.

Other new Academy classes include board games, conversational Spanish, introduction to philosophy, a week-long chess program, and a new French class with Madame Kuhn.

Our popular Camp Hornet provides an enriching experience for children ages 6 to 14. Daily swim lessons, weekly field trips, themed activities, and group games are just some of the fun to be had weekdays at the Beckerman Athletic Center from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Last year, a Makerspace block was added to the day, according to Camp Hornet Director Claire Rich. Some of the older campers created outdoor play stations – such as a water wall – that were utilized by the younger hornets. “Instead of partaking in a crafts project or the group games block, some campers chose to engage in Makerspace activities. The kids really enjoyed it,” said Mrs. Rich.
