Campus Protocols

The health and safety of our school community is paramount; and all reasonable efforts and precautions have been made to ensure the well-being of our students, faculty, and staff. All protocols have been made in adherence to local, state, and federal guidelines and may change accordingly as mandated by the State of Connecticut. Hamden Hall expects that all individuals comply with the rules, policies, and procedures set forth by administration to protect and safeguard our entire school community. We request that our community members observe a heightened level of awareness both on campus and off to ensure a successful school year.

All shared classroom desks will be sanitized after use. Middle and Upper School students will be required to wipe down the desks at which they sat prior to dismissal.

Hand sanitizer will be available at entrances to classrooms, buildings, and food service areas.

Hand-washing will be encouraged and extra time will be given for it at passing.

Touchless soap and paper towel dispensers will be available in restrooms. Additionally, restrooms will be modified to limit the number of occupants at one time.

Face Masks

Face masks are required of all students and adults except at lunch time or when they are stationary outdoors and able to practice social distancing. Mask breaks will be provided periodically throughout the day at times designated by each individual cohort. When not wearing a mask, social distancing will be strictly enforced. The school will have a supply of disposable masks available for students with misplaced or damaged masks. Students may wear two-layer cotton masks or three-layer disposable masks. Mask design is limited to: a solid color, a pattern, or a school or team logo. Bandanas and gaiters do not provide the same type of protection and cannot be used indoors. Gaiters may be worn for Lower School recess and outdoor physical education classes and all Middle and Upper School athletics. We recommend that families take time prior to the start of school to find masks that fit comfortably over their child’s mouth and nose, and practice wearing them as much as possible. This will allow for an easier transition to wearing them throughout the school day. If you anticipate that your child will not be able to wear a mask due to a pre-existing medical condition, please contact the Nurse’s Office.

Daily Health Monitoring

Hamden Hall will utilize the Ruvna App for collecting daily health information for all students and staff. Parents will be responsible for assessing their child prior to the start of each school day. Parents will certify a wellness check, no COVID-19 contact, and no recent travel to those states listed on the Connecticut Travel Advisory List.
We ask that students or staff who have any COVID-19 symptoms or are otherwise sick, do not come to campus. Middle and Upper School students will be able to attend classes online at home if they choose as all classes have been outfitted with a camera and microphone for Zoom purposes. Lower School teachers will provide students with missed classwork and activities appropriate for each grade level.

Food Services

Hamden Hall has partnered with Flik Dining Service, which will prepare lunch in the school’s kitchen facilities and deliver a variety of lunch offerings each day. Food will be pre-packaged and in single-serve portions.

“Grab and Go” stations will be offered for Upper School students.

Lunch will be delivered to both Lower and Middle School students.

All dining staff have undergone training in food safety and sanitation and will observe proper social distancing and use of PPE.

Health Facilities

Each campus will have a health facility that will also contain an isolation area. A registered nurse will be stationed at both the main campus and the Skiff Street Campus.

Students experiencing symptoms of illness will be assessed by the school nurse. If determined that a student is experiencing COVID-19-related symptoms, the individual will be placed in isolation and sent home. Return-to-school guidelines and clearance by a primary care physician must be met before an individual may return to campus.

Cleaning of Facilities

The school owns three UV machines that have been in full use to mitigate germs and ensure overall cleanliness. Use of this equipment will continue throughout all campuses.

Restrooms will be cleaned throughout the school day.

The school’s cleaning service will thoroughly clean and sanitize each classroom and common area after the school day concludes.

Air Circulation

Wherever possible, air circulation during the school day will be increased within indoor spaces by opening windows.

Ventilation systems are continuously maintained and have been modified to accommodate all recommended safety guidelines.

MERV-13 filters have been installed in all HVAC systems on all campuses.

Visitor Access

Other than faculty, staff, students, and trustees, no other individuals may enter school buildings on any campus. Contractors, outside vendors, etc., will undergo temperature checks by the Director of Facilities or designee.

The Dolven Admissions Center has moved to 70 Hall Street. Prospective students and their families will only be allowed on the outskirts of campus.
