THE OUTDOOR CLASSROOM
JUNE 16-20; 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. (Grades 2-6)
Over the years, this very popular program has introduced many young children to great adventures in the outdoors. These opportunities, beyond the four walls of a classroom, allow children to explore the natural world and all that it offers. They will learn skills that are both fun and exciting while, at the
same time, developing an appreciation of our environment. Everyday will be a new experience! We will discover the creatures that make the aquatic communities come alive in the summer. We will search in brooks and ponds, and we will catch crabs and collect shells at the seashore. We will learn to read a trail map and to identify the native flora and fauna while hiking trails in our local state parks. We will scramble over boulders and we will experience breathtaking views from the tops of hills and mountains. This is a beginning level outdoor program that introduces children to the wonders of the outdoors.
David Bennett is the founder of the Outdoor Classroom and has been directing the program for the past nine years. David has extensive experience in leading school trips canoeing down the Delaware Water Gap, rock climbing and caving in northwest Connecticut, and backpacking in the southwestern United States. He brings to this dynamic program his love of the outdoors, extensive teaching experience, and enjoyment of working with children. Tuition is $355. (Limit of 12 students.)

What do we do? Well, I am so glad you asked! Hamden Hall Teen Camp is for teenagers and pre-teens who want to have a great summer and make new friends. It is also a camp for parents who do not want their kids turning into brain mush—you know, when they sit around all day watching TV until their eyes glaze over or mouths just hang open. We become a very close knit group. Here’s the best part: WE GO PLACES!! Teen campers do community service twice a week at St. Anne’s Soup Kitchen and at a head start program for children. We take all day field trips on Wednesdays, but these trips are not your average trips; we go to the Bronx Zoo, tube down the Farmington River, water slide at Ocean Beach, and enjoy the rides at Lake Compounce. Sometimes we get lost going to and from destinations; but it’s not where you’re going, it’s how you get there and the friends you make along the way. On some days we go swimming, go roller skating, do arts and crafts, ice skate, laser tag, go to the movies, play tennis, slip and slide at our fields, go bowling, play miniature golf, drive a go-cart or two, rent movies, as well as visit local museums, aquariums, and beaches. We are always open to suggestions from the campers or parents. Teen camp makes the
journey fun and memorable. We often join the regular day camp for their full day activities. We end our season in style with a party at Pizza Hut for all teens who joined us at camp. Teen camp is directed by Judie Zundell, a mother who knows how to entertain all, even the poster child for teen angst.
