Welcome to Swain
Library
Mission
Statement
The
mission of Swain Library is to make readily available
library materials and information services to support
the curriculum, educational goals and diverse learning/
teaching styles of the staff and students of
Hamden
Hall
Country
Day School
. The
library media program assists students and staff with
identifying, locating, evaluating and using needed
materials in a variety of formats.
In addition, the library programs strive to
develop positive attitudes toward libraries and
information sources that will promote lifelong reading
and the use of libraries and other resources to help
users become lifelong learners.
Swain
Library, located in the quadrangle of
Hamden
Hall
Country
Day School
was built through the generosity of T. M. Swain. It
services the lower, middle and upper school academic
programs with approximately 25,000 volumes, over 60
print periodicals, Internet access, and subscription
databases. The Dewey decimal system of organization is
used. Knowing
how to use the library and developing research skills is
a most valuable tool that will serve you not only
through high school, but also into university and
independent studies throughout life.
The
librarians are Mrs. Djang, Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Garvey.
We encourage you to ask for
assistance when you need it.
New
Library
Technology
Center
The library
creates a climate for engaged learning and teaching by
providing information services and curriculum related
materials within an up to date infrastructure.
The library staff would like to acknowledge the anonymous
donation that allowed the school to acquire and install
a 16 station classroom/computer lab. This assures the
library’s continued commitment to our mission.
Bob Izzo, Lorri Carroll, Ginnie Pitler and Jim Hunter
and his crew spent the summer planning and constructing
our beautiful new facility. We invite you to stop by the
library and see it.
