Policy

Hamden Hall offers need-based financial aid. To determine need, Hamden Hall uses the criteria set forth by the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) in Princeton, New Jersey. The report of financial need computed by SSS is recalculated by the Director of Financial Aid applying certain Hamden Hall aid policies. These calculations are presented to the Financial Aid Committee, which then makes the financial determination for every application. Over 25% of the student body receives some form of financial assistance. Awards are granted on an annual basis and families must reapply each year.

Application Process

In order to apply for financial aid, the parents of a student must complete and submit a Parents' Financial Statement (PFS). Please contact the Business Office or the Admissions Office and ask that a PFS be mailed to you. The parents must also submit to the School a copy of their federal income tax form (Form 1040), including all supporting schedules. Hamden Hall reserves the right to request verification of income tax information from the IRS.

Financial Aid For Divorced And Separated Families

Hamden Hall requires that both natural parents contribute to the cost of education to the extent of their ability. The non-custodial parent must also complete a PFS and submit to the School a copy of his/her federal income tax form (Form 1040), including all supporting schedules. Hamden Hall reserves the right to request verification of tax information from the IRS.

NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY

Hamden Hall School does not discriminate in the conduct and operation of its educational programs and activities, including admissions and employment, against persons on the basis of their race, color, religious creed, age, marital or civil union status, national origin, ancestry, sex, mental retardation, physical disability or sexual orientation, in accordance with relevant governmental statutes and regulations.

Frequently Asked Financial Aid Questions

Question: Who determines how much aid my child will receive?

Answer: Using the criteria set forth by the School and Student Service for Financial Aid, the Director of Financial Aid prepares a report that is then presented to the Financial Aid Committee. The Committee decides how much to grant.

Question: Does applying for financial aid affect my child's chances of being accepted to Hamden Hall?

Answer: The admissions process is separate from the financial aid process. There is an Admissions Committee that evaluates each applicant for admission to the school, and a Financial Aid Committee that reviews each financial aid application.

Question: Do students with special talents receive more aid than other students?

Answer: Except for the Weber Scholarships, which are awarded based on a combination of need and academic achievement each year to students in grade 7 - 12, there are no awards for students with special talents.

Question: Will aid continue in subsequent years?

Answer: Since the parents of a student must apply for financial aid each year, a significant change in a family's financial profile will result in a different aid decision.
