Hamden Hall Country Day School has instituted a new Diversity Committee co-chaired by
Suzanne Hamlin-Smith and Robyn Teplitzky. The purpose of this committee is to provide programs and events for our students and our community that will increase cultural, religious, racial and
ethnical awareness. The committee is comprised of students and faculty who will work to develop educational and cultural programs on an on-going basis. Informational posters have already
been strategically placed around campus.
Anti Defamation League
The Diversity Committee is working with the Anti Defamation League to identify issues and develop a curriculum at Hamden Hall. Focus groups will be meeting to work with the professionals from ADL.
Assemblies were held for the Middle and Upper Schools with William Johnston, a national lecturer who worked for 31 years with the Boston Police Department. He is a senior associate for Police and Community Programming for Facing History and Ourselves, a national organization dedicated to educating people on issues of racial and ethnic understanding. Mr. Johnson spoke at Hamden Hall about how he went from being a perpetrator to an ally. Students were then asked to complete a writing assignment.
Hamden Hall students participated in the National Mix It Up Day sponsored by the
Teaching Tolerance Organization. Tables in the cafeteria were rearranged and the goal was to meet new people by sitting with others you do not know. It was a fun and new experience for all.
