A Future That Recognizes The Past
The need has always been there, and always will be.
Thank You Taylor Gymnasium
In 1912 the Hamden Hall student body was comprised of 17
students and three instructors. Physical activity was an
integral part of the School then, as it is today.
As the School grew, so did its needs for adequate
facilities to house and promote such activity. When the Taylor
Gymnasium was built in 1952, it addressed that need and
accommodated a student body of approximately 300.
In the 50-plus years since, enrollment has doubled, as has
the variety of formal sports offerings. Today, it is
abundantly clear that our gym is outmoded, undersized, and
incapable of serving the School’s need for a first-class
athletic program.
The Taylor Gymnasium has served dutifully and with
distinction as an indoor athletic facility; as a gym for
grades Pre-K through 6; as a place for all athletic teams to
practice; and as a center for school dances, special
performances, and social events and gatherings for the Hamden
Hall community. It hosts all Middle and Upper School
basketball games and wrestling matches. Hamden Hall doesn’t
just utilize the current gym, it maximizes it.
To ensure that a school of Hamden Hall’s quality remains
competitive, we must recognize that our needs can no longer be
met by the current facility, bow to our past, and move on to
the future.
An Effort You Can Support
Ground Breaking Goal $3 Million ·
Challenge Goal $6 Million
ONLY WITH YOUR HELP CAN WE MAKE TOMORROW HAPPEN
The need to expand Hamden Hall’s current athletic facilities
is both extreme and urgent. Our academics and fine arts have
always enabled us to meet the competitive challenges of modern
education—so too must our athletic program.
The new Athletic Center will cost $11 million. Through some
generous early contributions, wise fiscal management, and the
ability to fund a small portion of the project through a
tax-exempt bond, we have already raised nearly $8 million. We
are challenged to raise an additional $3 million before
breaking ground.
Beyond the $3 million, the “Taking on Tomorrow” challenge
goal is $6 million. Raising the ground breaking goal will
allow us to build this wonderful new facility, while reaching
the challenge goal will allow us to endow the operating costs
of the new facility. An athletic center endowment fund would
free up limited budget resources that could be used to fund
other projects around the campus, provide additional
scholarship funds, and assist us in maintaining competitive
teacher salaries.
