Sustainability Committee participated in the Town of
Hamden Earth Day Celebration
last Saturday. Students took turns manning a
Sustainability Information Table as well as explaining
basic solar principles with our student built solar hut.

Hamden
Hall's Interact Club was recently recognized for its
commitment to community service. The Club presented a
"check" for $3000 to the South Asia Pure Water
Initiative.

entire Hamden Hall community rolled up their sleeves to
work on Earth Day projects both on and off the campus.
From gardens to museums, from building houses to
cleaning up debris, the students got creative as they
worked to make our world a better, safer place to be!
Class of 2008 The 12th
grade headed to Bridgeport to work with Habitat For
Humanity.
Class of 2009 The
Class of 2009 went to the
Trout
Brook
Valley
Park
– part of the Aspetuck Land Trust – on the border of
Fairfield
and
Westport
. Our task was to clear invasive Japanese Barberry bushes.
Class of 2010
The 10th grade
headed off to
Ashford
,
CT
to help clean up and prepare the HOLE IN THE WALL GANG
CAMP for its June 1st opening.
Class
of 2012 The 8th Grade went to the Kellogg Environmental
Center in Derby, CT.
Class
of 2013
The 7th grade went to Common
Ground High School, a
New Haven
environmental magnet school located in West Rock
Park.
Kindergarten/
3rd Grade Kindergarteners
and 3rd graders beautify Hamden Hall's campus as part of
our Earth Day Activities. A special thanks to Dave
Fusco and the Grounds Crew for their help!
PreKindergarten Pre
K visited The Garbage Museum for Earth Day.They explored what it would like to be inside a
compost pile and then saw a real one.They also got to watch the recyclables from towns
be dropped and sorted.

Michael Bonaldo, U.S. Marines, spoke to Sue Toole's
Middle School history class about his two tours of duty
in
Iraq
, where he was stationed in Fallujah, just north of
Baghdad

the Hamden Hall community traveled to
Québec
City
for WinterCarnaval.The group enjoyed various activities: a giant
toboggan run onto la terrasse Dufferin, a visit
to Winter Carnival, a trip to a sugar shack for a
delicious meal "accompanied by" bottles of
freshly made maple syrup, tubing down ski slopes at le
Village des Sports, a tour of L'Hôtel de Glace and
le Château Frontenac, shopping in le vieux Québec,
dog sledding, and breakfast at le Parlement québecois.

HH Debate team traveled the short distance to
Hopkins
on Sunday, March 2nd to take part in a DANEIS event
featuring teams from Hotchkiss, Kingswood-Oxford,
Choate, Fairfield Prep,
Hopkins
and JoelBarlow
High School.A Joel Barlow Varsity pair coached by Randall
Smith, captain of the HH '93 Debate Team, took first
place with a perfect 3-0 record. Our Varsity team of
David Satterwhite and Sam Genecin finished
2-1 for their three rounds, as did Jackie Goldman and
Josh Kasper in the Novice division.Also participating (and seen in these photos) are
Captains Kevin Baruzzi and Zack Newick, and first-year
debaters Nick Ginsberg and Alessandro Powell.Coach Hunter, in his 23rd season as HH Debate coach,
is looking forward to the final two tournaments of the
season, the Yale University Oesterweiss Invitational in
late April and the DANEIS Championship at
Deerfield
Academy
in early May.
