The Lower School at Hamden Hall is designed to be a happy, stimulating
and comfortable place where children learn to think for themselves and
develop sensitivity to others. The curriculum offers a balanced program
of academics, the arts, computer, and physical education. Sixth graders
emerge confident in themselves, equipped with the skills, attitudes and
independence which prepares them for the challenges of the Middle School.
The goals of the Middle School are to expose students to every
discipline, to foster enjoyment of learning, and encourage independence.
Seventh and eighth graders take English, math, foreign language, science,
history, art and music in the seventh grade, and theater in the eighth
grade. The curriculum is challenging and focuses on a mastery of skills
as well as creativity and problem solving. Students leave the Middle
School with a sense of confidence and accomplishment.
The Upper School provides the traditional intellectual challenge and
training of a college preparatory program in a setting that encourages
students to become independent thinkers and confident young adults.
Required and elective courses enable students with a range of interests
and strengths to make appropriate choices. In many disciplines, we offer
honors and advanced placement sections for students who can benefit from
an accelerated pace. With faculty recommendation, qualified students may
pursue and independent study project at Hamden Hall or take courses at
neighboring colleges.
